The common ELV&ICT subsystems in a hospitality project

hospitality elv consultant design build

Hotel owners and operators are currently investing heavily in technology and integrated solutions within the hospitality market to give their in-house guests the best facilities & services available today. the need to integrate different hardware and software into a network that can communicate with each other via a network which will snakes the whole hotel or resorts on the front.

The ELV/ICT subsystems in a hospitality project need to comply with regulations from the operating entity and encompass a great many component systems. This requires the design and construction firm to have experience and professional expertise in both the technical aspects as well as the hospitality sector, in order to integrate all these subsystems to operate in a unified and synchronized manner.

SWS can provide free ELV and ICT conceptual design.

Previously proprietary vendor software and hardware would all run on different networks and languages. The need to streamline communication and operation through the property is crucial to the efficiency and provide a timely service for their guests became a priority for different systems to speak to each other.

triple-play network is one in which voice, video, and data are all provided in a single access subscription which can be beneficial for any organization. The most common applications are Telephony, community antenna television (CATV) and high-speed Internet service. The transmission medium may be fiber optic, conventional cable ("copper") or satellite.

The hospitality industry has always been at the cutting edge of technology. Walk through any Five Star Hotel today to see the machines and equipment that have been specifically designed to improve the speed, efficiency and productivity of your daily operations. Top hotel chains have begun developing proprietary software that integrates Front Office Systems, F&B Systems, Room Automation Systems, Guest Room Management, Audio Visual Systems and Security Systems over a common network. These systems are not only for guests, but are essential for the day-to-day operation of the Five Star Hotel or Resort.

The network all of these hardware and software uses to communicate over is what the industry refers to as Extra Low Voltage Systems.

Depending on the project’s scale and functions, an ELV System includes the following items:

  • Server room infrastructure: rack, cable trunk, UPS, EMS,...
  • Fiber optic and copper network infrastructure including rack, cabinet, patch panel, odf, trunking, etc.
  • Server system, storage, backup: hardware, operating system, virtualization,...
  • Application software, operating system system such as PMS, RMS, POS, MC, HR, Task Management system, Spa management, Sales catering system,...
  • Data security system: antivirus end point, firewall, EDR, XDR, etc.
  • Wired network system (LAN) and Firewall.
  • Wireless network system (Wi-Fi): inroom AP, indoor AP, outdoor AP, controller, captive portal design, PMS integration.
  • HSIA system (including interface with PMS for hotel and resort projects).
  • PBX system (including interface with PMS for hotel and resort projects): FOH, BOH phone, guest phone, faceplate design, SIP trunk, HA virtual IP PBX.
  • Information screen system (Digital Signature).
  • Surveillance camera system (CCTV): Used in monitoring or security monitoring applications for works.
  • Public sound system (PA): The public announcement sound system has the function of conveying information, messages and messages as well as emergency announcements in the building. In addition, this system is capable of playing BGM (Background Music) in public areas.
  • Access Control System: Access control system in the building, management of doors as well as elevators.
  • Car Parking System: Intelligent and automatic parking management system.
  • Intercom system for BOH.
  • Internet TV systems (IPTV): The television system can use signals directly from a television service provider. (including interface with PMS for hotel and resort projects).
  • End user computing device, software.
  • Receipt and kitchen printer, POS kiosk
  • AV system for convention center, meeting room.

Many of the 5* Hotel operators are now including Integrated Guest Room Management Systems, not only within the Suites but also within standard Guest Room types. The Integrated Guest Room Management system is an interactive guest room automation and energy management system. It can control many functions within the guest room; these can be chosen individually to provide a bespoke management system based on requirements and budgets.

The control can be carried out from many different devices within the room and dependent upon the level of integration can also be controlled from the Television, the IP telephone set, an in room I Pad or the more traditional desktop control unit. Work with the MEP and Lighting Consultant to advise on control and interfacing requirements along with providing detailed design, specification and installation of these individual systems.

Audio Visual

Audio Visual Systems within the Hospitality environment today now cover all areas within the Hotel and Resort rather than just the more traditional Public Areas, Ballrooms, and Meeting Rooms. In doing so, it now encompasses many more applications than it has done in the past.

Audio Visual Systems were historically stand-alone systems in their design but there are benefits to them becoming fully integrated with the Hotel IP Wired and Wireless Network. This allows for the sharing of Backbone infrastructure and also the Active Network Equipment which can significantly assist with non-duplication of Active and Passive Infrastructure combined with reducing costs for the systems.
